About the lecture


In this talk, we will discuss the future of nuclear energy in a world where competition with renewable energy is becoming increasingly fierce and where immense technological advances offer new opportunities for the nuclear industry.


About the lecturer


Damien Ernst received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in engineering from the University of Liège, Belgium, in 1998 and 2003, respectively. He is currently Full Professor at the University of Liège, where he is affiliated with the Montefiore Research Unit. His research interests include electrical energy systems and reinforcement learning, a subfield of artificial intelligence.  He is also the cofounder of Blacklight Analytics, a company developing intelligent software solutions for the energy sector. He has co-authored more than 300 research papers and two books. He has also won numerous awards for his research and, among which, the prestigious 2018 Blondel Medal. He is also regularly consulted by industries, governments, international agencies and the media for its deep understanding of the energy transition.



Registration policy


Registration to the event is mandatory, for security reasons, and occurs solely via our website 




Two deadlines are applicable:

  • Registrations before Monday 24 Feb 2020 are guaranteed, and confirmed by email on that day in the morning.
  • Later registrations are only accepted until Thursday 27 Feb 2020. Acceptance is conditional to available spots, and confirmed (or unconfirmed) on Thursday 27 Feb 2020 in the morning. Should the maximal capacity be exceeded, priority is given to BNS members who paid their subscription fee for the year 2020.
